2017 is coming to a close. It’s been a wild year filled with lots of change and new experiences. Today I am looking back and reflecting on this year as a whole. It’s crazy to me how quickly this year flew by. Every memory I made this year is cherish! Now let’s get to the recap!
Moved to South Carolina
On January 5th we loaded up a moving truck and carted our lives 358 miles north to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It was a stressful move but once we were there everything just fell into place.
We took a mini day trip to Wilmington, NC which is not a far drive from where we live. It was so nice walking around downtown and taking in the sights. One of my favorite things about that trip was visiting the USS North Carolina.
It was so lovely showing my mom and grandmother our new state. We did touristy things like Brookgreen Gardens and ate a LOT of southern foods!
One of the best parts of living somewhere new is exploring everything the area has to offer. One of those quirks this year was the Highland Games. My brother always goes to the one in Florida so I thought it would be a fun event.
One of my favorite events from this year! I drove 2 hours to Charleston to take a yoga class from one of my yoga idols, Kathryn Budig. The class took place on the baseball field where the Charleston Riverdogs play. It was a wonderful event where I was able to meet other yogis who love the practice just like I do.
Memorial day weekend put me on a plane to visit my parents back in Florida. I spent 4 days skipping about Disney and eating at all of my hometown favorites. It was so nice being home for a few days seeing my family despite the numerous flight delays!
We had a wonderful few days together doing all the touristy things!
We Traveled to Raleigh, NC
One weekend we took a trip up to Raleigh to meet up with Judd’s family. It was so awesome exploring the city and eating at all the amazing places there in downtown. You can read the posts from our trip below:
- Downtown Raleigh
- Whiskey Kitchen, Raleigh
- Historic Yates Mill, Raleigh
- NC State Farmers Market, Raleigh
By far the most stressful experience due to Hurricane Irma threatening to postpone it but with a little good luck we were able to close on time. At some points it felt like we would never make it to closing. Buying a home was crazy and exciting at the same time!
Judd treated me to Foo Fighter’s tickets for our 3rd wedding anniversary. The band played in Columbia, SC so we took an overnight trip over to explore. You can read more about that trip here.
Florida for Thanksgiving
We headed south to spend Thanksgiving with family. The trip was much-needed! It was so good seeing our families and spending some time with them. You can read about our trip in the posts listed below:
Instead of heading to Florida for Christmas we chose to spend the holiday in our new home. It was so wonderful getting to decorate this place we worked so hard for. (And continue to do so!)
Overall, 2017 was one heck of a year. It’s been the most transformative year of my life. At the beginning I felt like my life was a whirlwind of change and chaos but as it’s coming to a close I can rest easy knowing it was all worth it!
