This year I’ve been making a point to drink more smoothies. Usually I would buy them pre-packaged from the grocery store but I’ve always wanted to make my own. Since I got a new blender for my birthday, I decided to put it to good use.
It’s fairly simple to make smoothies especially if you’re in a hurry! Today I’ll share with you guys some tips to creating delicious smoothies. I’ll also share 3 of my go-to smoothie recipes.
Tips for Creating Smoothies
- Select a liquid base. That could be water, juice or milk. You can also use a little yogurt.
- Layer your ingredients appropriately in your blender. (From Bottom to top)
- Leafy Greens
- Fruit or Veggies
- Combine all your ingredients then test out your smoothie. Feel free to add in more of any specific ingredients. I find that I always add more spinach because I love my green smoothies!
Here are a few of my go-to smoothie recipes below:
Green is Good
I LOVE green smoothies! I know a lot of people are not a fan of drinking green things but let me tell you, this smoothie is delicious! This recipe is derived from one I found on Pinterest but I added in the flax-seed to get more fiber in my diet.
1 Cup Water
Handful of Spinach
1 Cup Strawberries
1 tbsp Flax Seeds
Peanut Butter Time
Protein smoothies are a great way to get some energy before a work out or for breakfast. I like to use a plant-based protein but you can use regular protein powder for this one too.
1 Scoop Protein Powder (Sun Warrior Chocolate is my favorite plant-based protein!)
1 Frozen Banana
1 tbsp Peanut Butter
1 tbsp Flax Seeds
Vitamin C Boost
With flu season in full swing, I’ve tried to drink a glass of orange juice each night with dinner. Judd came up with this smoothie and it’s perfect for getting in a dose of vitamin c! Plus the flavors are delicious!
1 Cup Orange Juice
1/2 Cup Strawberries
As you can see smoothies are really simple to create. Play around with your ingredients and get inspired by your favorite flavor combinations. In terms of blender recommendations you can never go wrong with a Vitamix or Ninja blender.
