May Feature: Hello, Summer!
Summer is most of the country’s favorite time of year. There’s literally NO chance for snow and the weather is nice enough for outdoor activity. However, if you are from Florida, summers are brutal! I was born and raised in Florida and the summertime was by far the worst time of the year. Why?
There are too many tourists. At the beach, tourists. The malls, tourists. The theme parks, TOURISTS! They are out in DROVES. I live where they vacation and they are all over the place during the summer.
It’s so hot. The heat is unbearable in Florida during the summer. The temperature can be 95 with a heat index of 105. It’s brutal with the humidity. And if you happen to go a summer without air in your car, make sure it’s not in Florida. (It happened to me, TWICE!)
Afternoon thunderstorms ruin everything. You have to get to the beach early if you want any sun because once 2-3pm rolls around, the thunderstorms come and wreck havoc on us. If you find yourself in Florida during these storms, avoid driving. Floridians forget how to drive when it rains.
But for someone with 26 years of Florida Summer Survival, I know how to survive the summertime! And now…A Floridian’s Guide to Surviving Summer:
- Going out in the sun, apply that sunscreen. The summer sun is brutal for your skin. Avoid any burns by applying regularly. If you forgot the sunscreen…
- Grab some aloe for the burn! Apply after showering to avoid peeling.
- Hydrate like crazy. I know drinking around the world at Epcot sounds like a blast but in 100 degree heat it will destroy you. H2O is your bestie in the summer. Get well antiquated to it!
- Head to the beach or theme parks early. Avoid the crowds, avoid the heat and be down with your visit before the summer storms come around.
