I have always wanted to make a pie. It’s one type of dessert I have wanted to try to master. My mom never really made pies growing up so I knew this would be something new for me to try. When a coworker made a Kentucky Derby Pie for Christmas last year I decided to try to make that one as my first pie. I came across a simple Kentucky Derby Pie recipe thanks to Pinterest which seemed easy to replicate. Here is my adventures in pie baking!
I picked up a frozen pie crust to keep my first pie-making experience an easy one but plan to make my own crust one day. (If I am brave enough!) The filling was simple and easy to throw together. I combined sugar to melted butter then added 2 eggs, a little vanilla extract, flour, chocolate chips and chopped pecans. I combined these ingredients together slowly with my Kitchenaid Mixer and before I knew it-I was ready to pour my pie filling into the crust. It took about an hour to bake my pie and about an hour or two to cool it before taking the first bite of my first pie. The reaction from my husband was priceless. He loved it!
