The conquest for a dog was a 2 year uphill battle with my husband. In 2012, he gave me an ultimatum: ring or a dog. Once the ring came, I was a girl on a mission-it was time to get us a dog!
We researched breeds since Judd is allergic to most long-haired dogs. We came across the Boston Terrier which happened to be the breed I always wanted to own. We read books, online articles and watched YouTube videos of Bostons to educate ourselves. We were sold! Our goal was to wait until after our wedding to get our future pet so we knew we had some time.
July came and was a rough month for us. Judd lost his grandfather and the loss really affected him. While we were back home for his funeral, I noticed Judd looking more closely for a dog and really taking an interest in getting one. A few weeks later, he found a local Boston Terrier born in June who would be ready to go home August 14th. I was shocked and a little scared that if we met him and got him, we would be in over our heads with the wedding quickly approaching. I was skeptical but decided to give it a chance and at least meet the puppy.
We met our Gus one day after work. He crawled up into my lap and fell asleep while his two sisters played wildly at our feet. He was very quiet and gentle unlike his sisters. He was perfect for our family! We decided at that moment, that he was ours. Judd says he remembers feeling like his grandfather aligned everything for us to get him.
Gus came home August 16th and is now 5 months old. He is all energy and excitement when you meet him but will love on you instantly. He appreciates any warm lap he can nap in and loves to snuggle with his stuffed Tigger toy. He came into our lives at the perfect time. It was a great distraction to get him prior to the wedding. Gus is now being trained getting acclimated to his new home.
Is there a story behind his name?
Yes. Gus is named after one of the Original 7 astronauts, Gus Grissom. His middle name is Apollo after the Apollo space program and my family’s first dog. And that is my nerd showing! He also goes by Gus-Gus the rat from Cinderella. I had to throw a Disney reference in there somehow!
