March Book: Living Your Yoga by Judith Lasater
This month’s book on my 2016 In Books list came as a recommendation. My yoga teacher recommended I read Living Your Yoga by Judith Lasater a few months back and I finally got around to it. Last year I dedicated myself to a consistent yoga practice which included learning more about it outside of class. I was excited to dive into this book and start applying yoga principles and my every day life. Here is my book review of Living Your Yoga.
Let me start off by saying that I love the format of this book! The book is broken into 3 major sections: Awakening Awareness: Yoga within Yourself, Widening the Circle: Yoga and Relationships and Embracing All Life: Yoga in the World. Within each section there are 6-7 chapters dedicated to a topic like Self-Judgement or my favorite Control(a chapter I needed to read the most.) At the end of each chapter Judith gives you an opportunity to practice “Living Your Yoga” whether it be writing down 5 things you feel grateful for or letting someone else take the wheel on a project.
This book really opened my eyes to the things I need to improve upon in my life own but how to apply what I’ve learned in yoga each day. The main reason I started my practice was to connect with myself a little more. Each chapter I read inspired me to take things to a new level. For instance, a chapter about patience helped me with a rather long and hectic morning commute one day. When I am usually impatient I sat in the car in traffic reminding myself that I am patient. It’s a learning process but this book really opened my eyes.
If you practice or teach yoga I highly recommend reading Living Your Yoga. It’s a great book that encourages daily practice and helps yogis like myself focus on bringing the elements of our practice into daily life. I bought a copy of my own so I can reference each of the sections while I continue my yoga journey.
March/April Book: The Martian by Andy Weir. I ‘ve already started reading this book and I can tell you I’m already hooked! I plan on watching the movie once I finish the book. I will review both for the blog!
