My grandmother loves to host teas at her Victorian home. She has for years! She used to throw little tea parties for me and my cousins when we were kids. We would put on our Sunday’s best and sip on sweet teas and nimble on tea sandwiches. Those teas always made me feel like royalty. This time was no different!
A few months ago my grandmother called to invite me to an afternoon tea with my mom and the women of my family. I drove down for the weekend to visit my parents and attend the tea. I picked out a dressy outfit, did my hair and put some make up on my face for the occasion. Most people know I very rarely wear make up. Weddings and fancy events are the only occasion. This was a fancy occasion!
The table was dressed in fall decor for our lunch which I admired so much. I love this time of year! Even though the weather is still pretty hot here in Florida it’s still nice to decorate as though the leaves outside have changed colors.
My grandmother prepared a spinach salad with fresh spinach, onions, radishes and bits of bacon. The dressing was a light vinaigrette which was perfect for dipping warm ciabatta bread in. If I could have one bread for the rest of my life it would be ciabatta bread!
My grandfather joined us for lunch and sat at the head of the table. My brother also tagged along to crash tea but it was a wonderful time! We enjoyed our salads accompanied by Arnold Palmer’s(RIP) and good conversation. If there is one thing I love about my family it’s sitting around and talking about anything and everything! The topics ranged from Thanksgiving details to what make up we enjoy using. (My brother piped in for this since he has to wear performance make up at Disney.)
Once we finished our salads it was on to desserts and hot teas. My favorite part! We passed around trays of bite-size cheesecakes and petite fours. I sipped on a festive cranberry tea which had hints of hibiscus.
After tea and treats we gathered in the living room where I found this gorgeous chair. I think I made it look good!
I love a good afternoon tea surrounded by family and good conversation. It’s one of my favorite things!
