Winter, the season I dread almost every year. The cold temperatures and minimal hours of sunlight in a day bring on the winter blues. You know the “wanting to hibernate until winter is over” type blues! Who can blame me…I’m a Florida girl at heart. A desire for sunshine and warmth is programmed into my DNA. Despite my hatred for winter, I must deal with it as best I can. Here are 5 ways we can beat the winter blues this season.
When the temperatures dip below 60, I’m in the mood to get cozy. Wool socks and chenille sweaters are my winter go-to’s. I’ll grab a cozy blanket, prop up my feet and Gus will jump in my lap to cuddle. It’s so important to be comfortable when the temperatures are unbearable! I also like to light some candles around the house to set the mood.
Cook Foods That Warm Your Insides
Soup, chili, and anything with spice is perfect for those cold winter evenings! Comfort foods that warm your insides keep the winter blues from cramping your appetite. My favorite thing to make in the winter is a vegetarian chili topped with avocado slices. Yum!
Break a Sweat
It’s so hard getting motivated to work out when it’s cold outside! However nothing beats breaking a sweat with a good winter workout to beat the frigid temps. My go-to winter workout? Hot yoga. There is something about an 85+ degree yoga studio to get you out of a frozen state.
Have a Warm Cuppa
Bring your kettle to a fast boil and brew up your favorite hot tea. Drinking warm beverages can warm every inch of your body during the winter. I tend to make larger pots of tea in the winter to keep warm longer.
Instead of hole in at home, get out and meet up with friends. Be social despite the cold temperatures and unfavorable conditions. You may not want to get outside so plan indoor activities like bowling or a coffee shop meet up.
Winter doesn’t have to be miserable. Let’s get through it together and avoid those winter blues!
