Writing is a big part of my life. Every day I write something even if it never amounts to a blog post or a journal entry. But how did I start writing? What made me want to begin this hobby that I love?
I started writing when I was 13 years old. I had picked up a journal for the summer and planned on writing in it every day leading up to my big trip to California. I was traveling with my dance studio to go to the west coast to train and take classes at The EDGE Performing Arts Studio. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and I knew I had to record every minute to the journey. I started writing about the weeks leading up to my trip: what I did, how dance was going or just how I felt. By the time my trip came, I had filled up my journal about halfway. I documented everything I did once I was on my Cali trip and finished the journal halfway through my 8th grade school year. I got excited about writing about my day and what was going on in my life which at the time seemed like a LOT! It was a good age to begin a journal and it only got better the older I got. I still keep a journal today though I don’t update it as much as I should. (Don’t worry, I am shaking my head as I write this!)
My writing has evolved with each stage of my life. When I started writing, I was a middle school kid who danced 7 days a week and never had time for friends outside of the dance world. Now I am a newlywed with a full-time job in my field of study, a dog parent and someone who love to blog. Writing always helped me get through tough times in life. I relied on writing to cope with changes in my life-like moving and enduring challenges in my college years. I often go back and read my writing to see how far I have come in life and in my writing. I am proud of myself for writing this blog and having the courage to keep going. Writing can be discouraging especially if you are a perfectionist like me!
