Today’s pose is a shoulder stand. This pose is still very new to me but with practice and focus I can work through it. I used to do something similar to this as a kid while I watched tv…until I pulled a muscle in my neck which caused me to have a stiff neck for 24 hours! I was a kid so I didn’t know any better. Now this is a pose I chose to do with caution. If it doesn’t feel right I ease myself out of it.
The thing about yoga is you should never force yourself into any pose. It’s not a competition. If you feel that a pose is too advanced or doesn’t feel right, modify it to something your body is comfortable with. A variation of shoulder stand is just laying on your back and placing your feet straight up in the air. Flex and point your feet to get the blood moving in your legs. To ease out of this modification bend your knees into your chest for a great big hug. The best thing to do during yoga is thank yourself for practicing. Always!
Just a few more days to go on my yoga challenge and I am sad it’s coming to an end. But my yoga practice continues in the studio with class weekly and in development of my at home practice.
