Memorial Day weekend is a week from today! I have always made plans each year for this weekend and this year is a special one. Thanks to Kayak I was able to find an affordable round-trip flight to Florida to visit family. I cannot contain my excitement for this trip! Despite the fact that Judd has to stay behind to be all call for work, I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends.
Since it’s a short 4-day trip, I have a list of things I want to do while I am there.
Take a trip out to Disney. What Florida trip would be complete without a trip to Disney? Since I still have my annual passes I am going to take advantage of them. Our plan is to do Magic Kingdom by day and Hollywood Studios for the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. It’s where they have a fireworks show to the music of Star Wars. I’m sure I’ll grab a Dole Whip Float and dance on Main Street while I’m there!
Visit the Port. When I lived at home I used to love to drive over to the Port. I could watch the boats go out to sea. During the Shuttle era I would often sit at the Port to watch a launch. There’s a beauty about it. They have an observation tower at the port where you can stand and take in 360 degree views of Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach and my tiny hometown, Merritt Island.
Also at the Port-have a meal at Grills. If you’ve ever taken a cruise out of Port Canaveral, FL you may have heard of Grills. It’s one of my favorite restaurants back home not only for the food but the ambiance. When the weather is nice the deck is the perfect place to enjoy fresh crab legs and a frozen adult beverage! You can watch the ships go out and wave at the passengers above. Makes me quite envious!
Have tea with my grandmother. One of my favorite things to do when I visit home is to head over to my grandmother’s house. She makes us tea and we chat about everything. Her home is always so welcoming and warm. Pictures of family cover the walls of the living room. It’s been her home for almost 30 years. This visit we are planning to go to a tea room.
Celebrate my brother’s belated 25th birthday. Since I missed seeing him on his actual birthday, I owe him a hangout when I am in Florida. He just turned 25 in April. Crazy! Our plan is to go grab a birthday meal/drinks and jam out to a special 90s playlist.
