Everyone tells you to live in the moment on your wedding day. When in the moment it feels like hours but the day really blurs together with happiness, tears of joy and hugs. I remember October 4th, 2014 so vividly. Today I thought I would share my thoughts on the moments leading up to the big “I Do” along with some fun candids from the day.
From Ms. to Mrs.
5am-My wake up call. I was up every hour that night checking the time…because I was excited slash nervous my MOH wouldn’t make the flight into Florida in time. Start hair and make up. I am on my first cup of tea. Overall, I’m calm. Slightly nervous but mostly excited.
7am-Hair and make up done. Photographer arrives with Starbucks. (She’s my hero!) By this time, I have already had 3 cups of tea and she brings the fourth. I give it to my brother. The girls’ hair is looking fabulous.
8am(ish)– Get dressed with the help of my mom and bridesmaids, The AC in the hotel must be broken because I am sweating like a pig. Chug a bottle of water from my MOH…one that will get me sick on the honeymoon. (Whoops!)
9am-Leave hotel with my MOH and my mom. She drives my car to the venue. We rock out to some country song about a wedding. I’m pumped. The guys hide Judd in a room so I won’t see him. I spot the groomsmen, my heart starts to race. They look so good!
9:30am– I go into house while Judd walks outside for our first look. Accidentally see my dad in hallway. We both get teary-eyed and laugh at the fact that it won’t be a surprise or a first look! I walk out to the brick path and see Judd’s back turned away from me. I am already tearing up. I tap in on his shoulder, excited like a kid on Christmas morning, as he turns around and we hug for a long time. I feel relieved.
(between the first look and the ceremony: various pictures of family and bridal party)
10:30am-I am hidden in a room with my mom, brother and bridal party. Matt plays Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and we dance and sing. I am relaxed.
11am– Ceremony starts. I cannot hear the music from inside the house. Once my dad and I step outside, I hear our song. it’s a string version of Rush’s “Closer To The Heart”. It sounds awesome! I am super excited. Like bursting at the seams of my dress with joy!
(My aunt goes through her ceremony, vows and a bunch of happy laughter ensues.)
11:30am-We are married! We kiss and it’s awesome! We dance down the aisle to Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road.” (A song we loved in college when a local band played it at this bar were he had our first date.) Now it’s time to party!
12pm-We enter the reception to AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” one of Judd’s favorite bands. The room is packed with all of the people we love. It’s go time. First dances happen. Father/daughter, mother/son dances happen. Even an anniversary dance which my grandparents ended up winning.
From noon to 3pm we danced, sang and laughed-it was by far the best day ever!
Advice for Brides
The biggest thing you can do for yourself is to let yourself have fun on your wedding day! Don’t let anything get you down. You are marrying the love of your life-it is the best feeling in the world!
Small things may come up and mostly they are out of your control. For instance, it rained on the morning of our wedding. The weather was well out of my control! I considered it good luck and kept up the positivity.
Don’t forget to thank everyone. We were so lucky to have family and friends from all over the place at our special day. To be surrounded by them was the best feeling!
