Nestled underneath the palms of Disney’s Polynesian Resort lies a hidden oasis. It’s something magical and only enjoyed with a cocktail in hand! Trader Sam’s is the perfect getaway on warm and sunny days. Opened in 2015, this enchanted tiki bar provides guests with Hawaiian vibes from the drinks to the music.
Sit down, grab a menu and order a drink. I’ll show you around! With 16 signature drinks, Trader Sam’s has something for everyone…even the kids! From rum flights to Kona beer flights there’s variety to choose from.
I chose the non-alcoholic route by ordering the Skipper Sipper which was similar to a mojito with juice, mint and soda water. But the real winner was the Spikey Pineapple, an alcoholic take on Disney’s Famous Dole Whip Float. Holy mother this was absolutely divine! If you aren’t familiar with the Dole Whip Float it’s Pineapple Soft Serve mixed with Dole’s Pineapple Juice. Add a little rum and the Spikey Pineapple will quench your thirst! It was the perfect cocktail…not too boozy but just enough to taste.
Feeling a bit hungry? Not to worry, Trader Sam’s offers appetizers that are perfect for enjoying. I highly recommend the Pan-fried Dumplings with soy sauce. I order it every time I eat at Sam’s! Judd went for the Roasted Chicken & Pork Sliders.
If the food and drink is not enough to convince you to try Trader Sam’s they usually have live music. We were graced with a lovely ukulele player who sang Elvis Presley songs with Polynesian flare. The sun began to set and I couldn’t resist getting a photo of us before we lost the light completely!
We finished our cocktails and headed out to the dock to watch the gorgeous sunset over Bay Lake. The clouds from the afternoon thunderstorms had cleared up and left the sky dusted with light pink clouds. It was truly breathtaking. I love living in a such a gorgeous and tropical place!
