A few years ago my mom took me to celebrate my 25th birthday at The Grand Floridian’s Tea Room for an afternoon high tea. We indulged on Oolong and Herbal teas while filling our bellies full of biscuits with clotted cream. It was a wonderful way to ring in my quarter century of life and I have been longing to go back ever since. My mom had been asking for us to schedule a time to go back and I decided it would be a wonderful way for her to celebrate her birthday this year with High Tea at The Grand Floridian!
Nestled in the back of The Grand Floridian Resort on Disney property is The Garden View Lounge. The room is filled with windows from floor to ceiling overlooking the resorts grounds of the resort. The decor has hints of an old Floridian home. It was the perfect location for a high tea celebration!
You begin by choosing your tea selection. I chose the Super Fruity Herbal Tea which had hints of blueberry. I initially put sugar in my cup but realized that this tea was pretty sweet on its own!
The first course was made up of tea sandwiches which included cucumber dill, curry chicken and egg salad, berries, cheese and a sweet onion tart. The great thing about tea is the perfectly portioned sandwiches. They are small enough so you can sample a few different types! My favorite was a tie between the cucumber dill which was very refreshing and the curry chicken salad.
I had multiple cups of tea thanks to my own pot. Each guest chooses their own flavor and receives a pot of their choosing with a velvet warming case to keep the tea warm. You can usually get about 4-5 cups of tea out of this pot.
A toast to the birthday girl, my mom!
Our second course was a raisin scone, jam tart and various spreads such as lemon curd, Devonshire cream and jam. I was slightly disappointed that they got rid of the clotted cream option but the Devonshire cream was a good replacement. I really enjoyed the jam tart. That is on my list of things to make one day!
The third and final course was our dessert selections. I chose the pastry plate which included various house-made pastries. The cream puff was presented as a swan. It was light and the only treat I could have after 2 courses of food! I boxed the remaining pastries to take home and enjoy…which I did!
My grandmother chose the English Trifle. I love the presentation of all of their foods but dessert was by far my favorite.
The birthday girl, my mom, celebrating her strawberries and cream dessert. I think she enjoyed it because there was nothing left of it!
Pinky’s out to a fine afternoon celebrating my mom and a wonderful high tea together! After tea, we walked around the resort.
These gorgeous blooms welcomed us to the lobby of The Grand Floridian. An employee informed us that each Thursday these 500+ fresh flowers get changed out for new ones. But they don’t throw these flowers away. They give individual flowers to each “princess” that walks through the hotel. How thoughtful!
These penguins are having quite the tea party in the lobby of the Disney Vacation Club portion of the resort. I just couldn’t help but take a picture and feel just as excited to have had an incredible high tea!
If you have ever wanted to try Afternoon Tea at The Grand Floridian I suggest booking a few months in advanced. I initially tried to book a reservation for Mother’s Day weekend in February but they were already booked. You don’t have to dress up for tea but it’s always nice to get a little fancy especially at The Grand Floridian!
