In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend I thought I would share one of my favorite recipes that my mom makes. Very rarely do I share desserts with you guys but today is an exception! My maiden name is Baker. Assuming that having that as a last name for so long that I would be an exceptional baker. I can thank my mom for my baking abilities. She’s the real baking pro of the family!
A few years ago my mom gifted my brother and I a homemade cookbook. This binder was filled with recipes we enjoyed from childhood as well as family recipes passed down through the years. One of those recipes was my mom’s famous Heath Bar Cake.
Known in the Pinterest world as a “Poke” cake, this recipe is quick and easy to make. I’ve made it a few times for functions and it’s always a crowd favorite! All credit for this amazing dessert goes out to my mom who taught me everything I know about baking.
Devil’s Food Cake mix
(Ingredients to make cake mix: Vegetable oil, 3 eggs, water)
1 Can Carnation Evaporated Milk
1 Jar Carmel Sauce
Cool Whip – I substituted this with So Delicious Dairy-free Cocowhip.
Bag of Heath Bars crushed
Bake Devil’s Cook Cake mix according to box instructions. Once the cake is completely baked, poke holes in it with a large fork.
Mix together the evaporated milk and Carmel sauce and slowly drizzle over cake while it is still warm. Let the cake cool completely before frosting with Cool Whip or Cocowhip. Top your cake with crushed up Heath Bars and enjoy!
