Halloween is in a few days and I look forward to this time every year! The weather is cooler, it gets darker earlier and lets face it dressing up as your favorite character for Halloween was THE BEST! (My favorite costume when I was a kid was Queen Amidala from Star Wars Ep.1…nerd much?)I have rounded up some of my favorite Halloween movies to watch over the next 2 days to prepare for this dark and spooky holiday!
Addam’s Family Values
Dun-nuh-nuh-nuh*snap*snap* I have always loved the Adam’s Family movies since I was a kid. I pretty much aspired to be like Wednesday Addam’s as an older sister and my brother can probably attest to this. A quirky comedy that is fit for all ages-mostly. This movie made the creepy, crawly ghoulish family seem totally hip! It also inspired easy to make Halloween costumes like Wednesday and Morticia Addams.
Rocky Horror Picture Show
One of my favorite Halloween movies even though Tim Curry is super creepy. He plays a perfect Dr. Frank-N-Furter and Susan Sarandan as Janet is spot on! The songs will make you sing and dance along. (Let’s do the Time Warp again!)The costumes are pretty amazing for a movie made the ’70s. Some community theaters will even perform the movie out for audiences with props, effects and audience participation. (People who have never been to the show get pulled onstage and get a V written on their forehead symbolizing Virgin-first timer to the show.) See if the theater in your local city is performing it live and check it out!
One of my all-time favorite Halloween movies. A Mel Brooks classic comedy completely filmed in black and white. Gene Wilder plays a crazed Dr. Frankenstein whose experiment to bring a giant back to life with a transplanted brain fails….and fails epically! Favorite part of the movie: When Dr. Frankenstein “Puts on The Ritz” with his creation. Like any Mel Brooks film, you will laugh your butt off! I’ve seen this movie so many times I can quote every single line! I just picked up my own copy of this movie for my collection…so I don’t have to borrow my father’s!
How could I make a list and leave this off?! This movie is FABULOUS! Bette Midler is my hero and she makes a perfect Winefred. SJP as a promiscuous witch? Hilarious! The Disney cult classic is a kids movie but really its made for all ages. If you have the chance to get to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party their castle show is Hocus Pocus themed with the witches and all of your favorite Disney villains. Totally awesome!
