When I’m in Florida there are a few places I love to eat at. Grill’s at the Port, Ossarios in the Village and Meg O’Malley’s in Downtown Melbourne. But this past trip introduced me to a new Irish pub that was closer to my parent’s place and is a diamond in the rough. Nolan’s Irish Pub is located 5 minutes west of the famous Ron John’s Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach, Fl.
When you walk in, you’ll notice the decor is similar to most Irish pubs. Old Gusiness ads hang all around the place. However if you look closely you will see some space memorabilia. It’s an ode to the Space Coast and its rich history in manned spaceflight. Not very Irish but still really cool!
We took my grandmother out for dinner while I was visiting a few weeks ago. We picked our table and my dad saw someone he worked with at the bar. When our server came over we found out that my dad’s friend bought us our first round. What a wonderful gesture!
Each time I eat at an Irish pub I get the same dish: Shepard’s Pie. It’s one of my all-time favorite Irish dishes so I like to sample it every place I can! The Shepard’s Pie at Nolan’s comes in a half or full portion. I opted for the half and it was plenty!
This dish was savory and delicious! Nolan’s Shepard’s Pie is made with ground beef and topped with mashed potatoes and cheddar cheese. A slice of rye bread accompanied my meal. It was as hearty as I expected it to be!
My mom chose the Pot Roast. I love how colorful this dish was! It’s amazing what veggies can do to compliment meat and potatoes.
My dad went with an Irish classic: Bangers and Mash. Prior to ordering my grandmother talked about how my grandfather enjoyed this dish during their travels in Europe. When my dad ordered it for dinner it was a nice ode to him. If he were still alive I just know he would’ve enjoyed a nice full portion of Bangers and Mash!
Since we were all together for dinner, we decided to order dessert after our meals. It’s a Baker tradition and one that I am not opposed of!
My brother ordered a Sticky Toffee Pudding. It was topped with caramel sauce and a little whipped cream.
I was bad. Very bad! I ordered the salted caramel brownie which was topped with whipped cream. (I scraped the whip cream off because it’s not my thing!) It was heavenly. And I ate the whole thing by myself. That’s a rare feat!
Nolan’s Irish Pub certainly did not disappoint! If you find yourself in Cocoa Beach on vacation stop by Nolan’s for lunch or dinner one night. You’ll be glad you did! If you want to find out more check out their website here.
