This month I am starting a new yoga feature. It’s something I’ve been debating for a while now and thought it would make a fun feature each month. I will introduce a new pose every month that I am working towards in my yoga practice. I want to share my yoga journey with you guys and sharing my progress along the way!
This month I am focusing on a posture I have been working on since August. Dancer or Natarajasana means King Dancer. It is a back bend posture that opens your chest up nicely while working on your balance. This is a great posture if you want to work on back bends and balancing at the same time. I have always loved the way this posture looks!
Poses I am Doing to Prep for Dancer
- Camel Pose-It’s not my favorite pose but it’s a great way to warm up the tops of the thighs and opens up the chest nicely.
- Bow Pose-This is a great prep pose that strengthens the back muscles necessary for dancer pose. This is also another great heart opener and helps build up heat in your thighs.
- Tree Pose-This posture will help build strength in my ankles, calves and thighs. I have very tight ankles
Biggest Challenges for Dancer Pose
I have a few things I have to work through in dancer pose. The first is my tendency to let my hips rotate out when they should be squared. It helps to begin with placing my hand opposite hand on my hip while I begin to hinge into the posture. The second issue is keeping my upper body lifted up and not hunched over. Over the next few weeks I will be incorporating this posture and the prep poses into my at-home routine. By October 31…Halloween…I will show you my progress!
