Each morning I stare deep into my closet hoping new pieces and nicer clothes will appear. A good 20 minutes will go by and I realize my clothes are that of an 18-year old high school girl. (It doesn’t help my size hasn’t changed since 10th grade…) As a gift to myself for my recent birthday I decided to take any money I received and put it towards a wardrobe overhaul. I’m 26-years old and a working professional now, I need to start looking like one and feeling good about myself. How does one re-vamp her wardrobe? Commence Operation Wardrobe Overhaul!
Step 1: Closet Clean-Out The hardest part of any wardrobe overhaul is getting rid of things you don’t wear. I have emotional connections to a lot of things especially clothes so this is always the hardest part for me personally. I will pile things I rarely wear out on my bed and determine if I need to keep it or chuck it.
Step 2: Letting go of the Clothes Hello, Goodwill! Each time I clean out my closet I take bags and bags full of clothes to Goodwill. Sometimes I will fill the bags and they will be in the back of my car for months. (Seriously, I have done this before.) The activity of actually taking them is a part of my denial…I struggle with letting go. Yet I feel oh so relieved once the bags are no longer in my possession.
Step 3: Finding My Style This is a tough one for me. I am rather small. I am about 5’4 and very petite so learning how to dress this unusual frame is hard. You’d think being thin would give me an advantage. It doesn’t. Believe me! Jeans can fit in the waist but not the length or vice versa. Cute billowy shirts just look terrible and over sized even if I buy an extra small. My plan is to do a little research through Pinterest and find some style icons I can get inspired by.
This Friday I will feature a post about my Style Icons and the inspiration behind my new wardrobe transformation. Stay tuned and thanks for reading!
