April Feature: Spring Cleaning & Organization
When I first began blogging in college I had no method to the madness of posting. I wrote day-of posts on the spot with no concise thought or planning. I flew by the seat of my pants! I had zero consistency thus no consistent readers or traffic. Since I have started this blog, Some Shananagins, I have become more organized and serious about my blogging. I wanted to take the next step into becoming a better blogger and that meant getting organized and planning ahead!
I started a blogging binder. I picked up a plain white binder and filled it with colored separators to begin planning out my blog. Each section is specific to planning out my posting schedule. This houses my editorial calendar by month, posting schedules by date, post ideas by month and a section for blog worksheets I find online to help me grow into my blog. I LOVE having this binder to keep on top of my blog and plan ahead by month. I generally like to have all of my posts laid out a few weeks in advance.
I schedule my posts by day in my agenda. Remember my blog post about Living By The Agenda? This is where it comes in handy the most. Each week, I have blog posts for that week scheduled in my agenda, highlighted marking it special for my eyes to catch each time I open my agenda. With every post, I check each post off in my agenda noting that I have gone through the publishing action.
I rely on apps like Evernote to keep up with ideas. Whenever I am out and away from my computer if I have an idea I pull out my iPhone and open up the Evernote App. I love having this app on me in case I ever get any wild ideas for a post I note it in my app. I can even draft up a post and email it to myself to post later from my computer. This really keeps me working on content for this blog even if it’s not what I am doing at the moment. During my 31 Day Blogging Challenge, I often found myself writing posts while running errands like getting a pedicure.
