Valentine’s Day is a week from Saturday and I thought I would “flashback” to my first Valentine’s Day with Judd. It was about 5 years ago about a month and a half into our relationship. It fell on a Monday so we decided to celebrate it the weekend before. We planned a road trip to Savannah, GA that we were supposed to take for my birthday that year. (I had a really bad cold that week so we rescheduled.) It was our first road trip together and I wasn’t sure how it would go. Two hours in a car with a new boyfriend can be slightly nerve wrecking. It was far from it! Judd made us chocolate dipped strawberries and turtle chocolates for the drive up which we enjoyed. We listened to music and sang all of our favorite songs. It made the time pass by and before we knew it we had arrived at our hotel. We ordered room service for dinner and relaxed knowing that the next day would be a busy one exploring all Savannah had to offer.
We woke up on Saturday and got our cameras ready to explore the city. We walked through the parks including Chippewa Square , the site of the famous park bench scene from Forrest Gump where Tom Hanks compares life to a box of chocolates. We walked through each of the boutiques around the town and made our way to River Street, one of my favorites spots in Savannah. The street is lined with shops and restaurants including a Cajun place with the best Crab Cake Sandwich I have ever had.
Later that evening, we dressed up and walked down to Moon River Brewery in the heart of Downtown Savannah for dinner. Judd was so excited to try this place! Apparently the building is haunted by ghosts. (He saw it on Ghost Hunters.) The brewery was known for its beers which were delicious and the Turkey & Brie sandwich was perfect. After dinner we walked back to our hotel hand in hand.
The next morning we woke up early to go get reservations at Lady & Songs, Paula Deen’s restaurant. I had been before with my family and wanted to take Judd to experience her Sunday buffet. We waited in line and put our names on the list for a 11am lunch. I was so excited! We had done a lot of walking around the day before so we decided to just sit on a bench near the restaurant and talk. We took in everything around us and it was perfect! When our time came to go to Lady & Sons, we were starving! We both went nuts with our lunch plates and took advantage of the buffet. We left town shortly after lunch in order to make it back to Jacksonville at a decent hour.
Our first Valentine’s day/weekend was perfect! We spent it together and survived our first road trip as a couple. We want to go back to Savannah in the future…maybe even for another Valentine’s day. This year will be a quiet one which we are both okay with!
