A few weeks ago I received a package in the mail. I couldn’t believe how quickly this particular package arrived but when I opened it up I squealed. Kind of like…”EEEEEKKK!” My official Passport had arrived and I could not believe that I was holding it in my hands. Confession…I am 27 years old and have NEVER been out of the country. True story!
When I married my husband I told him that I wanted to travel more before we decided to have a family. We had some ideas of places to go outside the US but decided to start our first trip out somewhat close to home. This spring we will be sailing off to the Bahamas! I am so excited for this opportunity! Of course I will share more about that next month. We booked a cruise as our first out-of-country trip. We figure it would be convenient as cruise prices include room & board as well as all dining and non-alcoholic beverages on the ship. I have never gone on a cruise before so this trip will be the first!
Most couples honeymoon out of country but with the costs of planning a wedding and buying a car the year prior our dream vacation of Europe including Italy and France were put on hold. This wasn’t a bad thing! I ended up getting sick while on our honeymoon and I am sure that would be have horrible to deal with overseas…
Now that my passport is official I can’t help but think of all of the amazing places that I want to travel to. Here are a few of them:
I have always wanted to go to Canada! Not necessarily in the winter but it would be cool to see Whistler, Canada during that time! Why Toronto? For starts it’s a pretty unique city with a lot of great things to offer an American tourist like myself. I would love to visit the St. Lawrence Farmer’s Market and pick up some fresh ingredients to make an epic dinner that night. The Toronto Zoo would also be really cool to visit. Toronto is an hour and a half from Niagara Falls, which could make for a great day trip while in Toronto. The music scene would be really cool to check out and considering one of my favorite bands began in Toronto, it would be an amazing experience to see their old stomping grounds!
Taking advantage of the newest tourism opportunity of Havana, Cuba is pretty high on my traveling wish list! Havana was one of the top vacation destinations but for many years the US had banned travel there. Last year the ban was lifted allowing Americans the ability to travel to Cuba. While in Havana, I would want to visit the Havana Club Rum Factory. I am pretty sure they give out samples! I would visit camara oscura to get real-time 360 degree views of the city. Then I would head to the Museum of the Revolution in Old Havana dedicated to Cuban history especially during the Revolution of the 1950s. Obviously while in Cuba, I would have to order an authentic Cuban sandwich!
Every tea-lover’s dream is to travel to England and visit tea houses. I would travel there just to do a tea house tour! I have had a long love with London, England ever since my grandmother went for the first time. Her photos and stories won me over on places to visit. I would go see Buckingham Palace and hope to catch a glimpse of the queen or Kate Duchess of Cambridge. I would take a selfie with the guards of Buckingham because why not! I would admire Big Ben even from the London Eye. I would visit a pub and order fish and chips or bangers and mash.
My husband’s Italian side hails from Sicily, Italy so to visit there would mean so much to him! Discovering where your ancestors hail from and trying the cuisine can teach you so much about your family and the traditions passed down. In Sicily, we would explore the unique architecture of the old churches and palaces. We would eat local cuisine and enjoy the views of historic Italy.
Being of Irish descent, I have always wanted to travel to Ireland. There’s even an airport named Shannon. Crazy huh?! I would love to see the Castles and beauty of Ireland’s greatest landscapes. I would go to the Guiness Factory for a tour and check out some of the museums. I would be armed with my film and digital camera to capture every moment of my Ireland trip!
From the looks of this list it appears I have a lot of traveling and money-saving to do!
