About a few weeks ago I started reading Aim True, a lifestyle book and also the topic of this month’s feature. The author highly encouraged keeping a journal while reading through the book which I was happy to do! After all I have been journaling since middle school. There are questions and activities throughout Aim True that I have been doing in my journal and it inspired this blog very blog post.
Why do I journal?
Journaling for me has always been therapeutic. I find that writing things out for me to write things out and getting them off my chest soothes whatever situation I am going through. Some of the hardest times in my life were spilled out into a journal removing a massive weight from my shoulders. Talk about a sigh of relief! I like to go back and re-read my past journals just to see where I was at that point and how far I have come.
Another reason why I journal is to hold on to the important memories in my life. I always have the fear that I’ll forget those memories. Keeping a journal is my way keeping those memories written down so I can read through them later. It’s also a great way to relive that happy moments in life, like when I wrote about our wedding day…from start to finish. Or graduating from college and how it felt to be done.
Finally, I journal so that I have an outlet that is unbiased and non judgemental of whatever I am writing about. It allows me to be 110% honest without fear of anyone reading my journal. I always believe that a journal should be private. What better place to spill everything out than in a journal!
