For my personal goals this year I decided to start setting daily affirmations. In an effort to keep positive and happy thoughts I felt that daily affirmations would help me keep that intention alive and well.
I started making affirmations on January 1st. A new year brings new possibilities and a fresh start to setting intentions. My first affirmation of 2016 was to relax and breath. Take time to myself. That is exactly how I spent New Years day. I did a few things around the house but the majority of the day i spent cuddling on the couch with my Gus watching Netflix. I ordered dinner from my favorite sushi place and called it a night. Judd closed at work that night so it was the perfect evening to take time to myself.
On Monday I set my affirmation and intention based around my first day back to work in the new year. Keep an open mind. I always struggle with this but I found it fitting for the first day back to work. In the past I have been guilty of jumping quickly to conclusions and shutting others and their ideas out. Not cool, I know! By keeping an open mind at work I allowed myself to take things in stride and really open up to new things and ideas in the work place.
On Tuesday my affirmation was to keep a positive outlook and repetitively tell myself that I will not get sick, I will not get sick…No matter how much positively I had and how many times I uttered the following affirmation I managed to get sick.
On Wednesday I set my affirmation based on a dream I had. Be thankful for where you have been and where you are today. (Keeping in mind the people who helped get you there.) I felt this affirmation all day even though I was out sick from work. I tend to let my mind wonder if I am at home especially when I am sick. It left me feeling whole and happy even on a blah day!
I skipped setting an affirmation on Thursday but on Friday I set an affirmation to help boost my self-confidence. I am capable and I am confident. Sometimes you just need a little confidence boost! I felt after a rough week health wise that setting an affirmation about self-worth and confidence was crucial.
As you can see I set my affirmations based on what is going on in my every day life and or how I am feeling that day. How do I come up with my daily affirmations:
- Ask myself how I feel when I get up in the morning. Usually this will help me determine what I want my intentions for the day to be. The other day I woke up after a dream feeling content and accepting of everything in my life. Thus my affirmation for the day was to be thankful for where I came from and for what I have in my life today.
- Base the affirmation on a situation. If I had a bad day or dealt with rejection of some sort I look to my daily affirmation to help counter it. That means telling myself that today I am worthy or today I am a great writer. (This one should be my affirmation every single day!)
- Journal about it. Once I set my affirmation for the day I usually write it down in my journal then write about it or the day I had based on the affirmation. Keeping up with my journal is also a part of my personal goals this year.
