TGIF! It’s time for another installment of Shananagins Lately: Shanangins Visits Home edition. Last Friday I drove down with Gus to visit my parents for my dad’s birthday. I haven’t been home for a while so it was a much-needed trip down. Judd stayed at home to work that weekend but it would’ve been great to have him there with us.
Friday– I took Gus to my grandparent’s house to run around with their schnauzers in their big backyard. Gus had a blast playing with the other dogs but was a stinky mess afterwards. He immediately got bathed when we got to my parents house. That evening we went out to dinner for my dad’s birthday with my grandparents. We had a good time laughing at old stories of my dad and how accident-prone he was as a kid. He used to compete with his brother for who got the most stitches after injuries! I gave my dad his birthday gift which was a picture of us walking down the aisle with the lyrics to the song we walked down to on the image. (Shout out to Angela and Paper Love Song for the beautiful print. Check her out on Etsy here.)
Saturday- I headed to the park early to meet up with two of my good friends from high school who have kids. We ran around and slid down the slides, swung on the swings and had a great time! I even taught my friend’s 3-year-old how to take a selfie with a GoPro. (She’s a pro!)
That afternoon my family headed out to Orlando to meet up with my brother. We ate lunch/dinner at a local brewery, Sea Dog Brewing Company. They had some great food and even better beers. We then headed to Magic Kingdom to celebrate my dad’s birthday. He even got a Birthday button which cast members have to wish him a “Happy Birthday” if he is wearing it. It was very crowded and we didn’t stay all night but we rode a few rides and walked around.
Sunday- We headed out for breakfast at my favorite place back home, Grills at Port Canaveral. I love going to the port especially when the weather is nice and sunny. Breakfast was delicious as always and we walked out onto the deck afterwards to look out at all the boats in port.
After breakfast, we headed back home and I decided to tear a part my old room-throwing stuff away and donating others. My parents will eventually make that room a guest bedroom but for now it’s storage. I went through old dance ribbons and medals, found all of my portfolios from photography school and some old photo albums. It’s humbling to look through pictures from childhood to adulthood. I’ve come a long way! It’s been an amazing journey. Being in my old room for a few hours really reminded me how much I miss home but how grateful I am that I’ve made it this far. I threw out a lot of stuff this weekend. It felt good!
What do you guys have planned for this weekend?
