August 21st marks my 5 year anniversary since I moved to Jacksonville. It’s hard to believe it but time has flown by since my move. I was born and raised in the same place, never lived anywhere else in my life until I packed up my tiny car and moved all of my stuff to Jacksonville for college. I was 21 years old and looking to finish my bachelor’s degree at a university level. I was immature, irresponsible and restless for adventure when I moved. I only knew one person when I made the move but I was blessed with great roommates who helped me adjust and meet new people. The transition was difficult at first. I had to learn to adjust to my own schedules and responsibilities. Making the move to Jacksonville itself was pretty easy though. When my parents dropped me off at my dorm and I said my goodbyes I didn’t look back. I didn’t cry. I was excited for the opportunities that were in front of me. Within months I was well acclimated with my new city and new school. I made it a point to go out and meet new people, work hard at my courses and focus on finishing my degree.
In honor of my 5 year anniversary with Jacksonville, I am dedicating my monthly feature to it. 5 In Jaxx will focus on memories, favorite places to eat, things to do and tips for moving to a new city all in the theme of 5’s. Here’s what you can expect:

I am excited to share this anniversary with all of you and hope that it helps inspire someone to make that big step and move to a new city. Making moves can be a big change but change is always a good thing! I look back on the last 5 years and smile because I know I made the right decision to move.
