July Book: Aim True
I’ve been working my way through Aim True since the beginning of July. I know what you’re thinking, I am slacking a bit on my reading. When life gets busy, reading takes a backseat. *No excuses though!* I discovered Kathryn Budig via Instagram which led me to her blog. As a yogi I am always looking for inspirational people to follow and great books to read like Aim True.
This book is broken up into sections. It starts by introducing Kathryn’s own personal journey and how she came up with her Aim True journey. I grabbed my journal and took notes, answered questions posed in each chapter and discovered what I needed to start my very own journey.
Kathryn gives her readers over 100 different yoga postures in different sequences dependent upon how you feel. I gravitated towards the Sun Salutations because nothing heats your body up quite like this sequence! She gives readers easy to do asanas and describes exactly how to do them. It’s the perfect way to start your yoga practice if you can’t make it to class.
You know me, I am always looking for new recipes to try and healthy dinners to make. When I saw that Aim True had healthy recipes that I could try, I was sold! From the Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese to the Fish Tacos-Kathryn includes a lot of great recipes that are healthy and delicious.
Last year I tried to get into meditation and I let it fall by the wayside. Kathryn has a chapter filled with great meditation tips and how to get started. Immediately after reading it I swore to myself I would get myself back into meditation even if it’s 5 minutes a day. She has a lot of great ways to practice your breathing as well. Breathing for stress. Breathing for anxiety. She has great suggestions. It’s amazing what your breath can do to your body and state of mind.
Overall I loved reading Aim True and felt it had a lot of great tips to apply to life. The yoga sequences were perfect, the recipes were easy to make and the meditation tips helped me inspire my own meditation practice. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a healthier lifestyle, wanting to make changes or just curious on how to eat better.
