November Book Review: Unqualified by Anna Faris
One of my favorite podcasts to listen Anna Faris’ Unqualified. She interviews some pretty notable celebrities and also gives good advice to her callers. When her book dropped at the end of October I knew I was going to read it!
A few months before the book was released it was announced that Anna was separating from Chris Pratt. Like most of her fans I was completely heartbroken for her. They seemed like Hollywood’s golden couple. But Hollywood often rips marriages to shreds no matter how strong they are. So going into this book felt a little weird.
Overall I really enjoyed it despite the negativity that surrounded Anna and her recent split. There were some parts of the book that were incredibly relatable! Here are my favorite parts:
Anna Gives Pretty Good Advice!
If you listen to her podcast you probably already know that. But this book is full of great advice. From dating tips to general life tips this book has advice for anyone. Anna includes her personal stories which coincides with her advice. My favorite advice: protect your heart.
Her Platonic Relationship With a Guy
Sim Sarna is one of Anna’s best friends and also happens to help her out with her podcast. They delve into what makes their platonic relationship work despite the myth that men can’t be friends with women without sexual attraction. Anna and Sim are honest with their friendship and the hurdles they’ve had to endure. (A jealous ex-wife being one of them!) Their dynamic is very brother/sister which is fun to listen to when they bicker on the podcast!
Jack’s Birth Story Will Make You Tear Up
Anna’s son Jack was born 9 weeks premature and lived in the NICU for about a month. Her recollection of that month was heartbreaking. I couldn’t imagine how her and Chris must have felt having to spend every minute wondering when they could bring Jack home and if he’d have any developmental delays. It’s an emotional chapter but one that is a part of Anna’s story. Jack is about 5 years old now. If you ever listen to Anna’s podcast he makes appearances here and there.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It had me laughing throughout which was a real treat. If you listen to the Unqualified podcast you are sure to love this book! Now I’ve got to go dive into my December read before the end of the year!
