As a part of my personal goals this year I vowed to start waking up earlier each morning. This would pose challenging because I am NOT a morning person. AT ALL. Over the last few weeks I started waking up early before work. I will be honest, I don’t stick to doing it every day but 3-4 out of the 5 day work week is pretty good for a first timer!
Developing a “morning routine” lately has helped me out of bed and on with my day. So what is my new morning routine? How do I kick-start my average work day?
6:13/6:30AM- After snoozing my first alarm, I roll out of bed. I try to do this quietly as Judd is usually still sleeping at this hour. I will cover him with my portion of the comforter and make sure he is warm. It’s been so cold in the morning lately that I like to make sure he is warm.
6:40AMsih- I straighten my hair or put it up and out of my face. Then I get dressed. This part takes the most time as I never plan my outfits ahead of time. My fear is always that what I picked out the night before isn’t how I am feeling day of.
7AM- I head downstairs and let Gus out of his crate. He usually eats his breakfast at 7am and we try to maintain that so he doesn’t turn into a pudgy Boston Terrier!
7:10AM- My water for me tea boils and I prep my Teavana Perfect Tea Maker with my favorite Herbal Tea to take with me to work. It saves me money plus my commute gives me the time to let it cool before drinking.
7:15/7:20AM- During this time I usually gather up my lunch for the day, pack my yoga clothes if I have class after work or sit on the couch and let Gus chew his bone on my lap. It’s the downtime I use to relax before leaving for work…and sitting in horrible traffic each morning.
7:35AM- I leave for work or in my case about a 30 minute parking lot that is the highway on my commute to work. On a good day I can make it in 30 minutes. But on the worst day…it takes an hour to work. Luckily I leave early to avoid this!
My new morning routine is evolving with this new goal to wake up earlier. Granted this is just after the first month of pursuing. I have some changes and adjustments I want to make of the next few months if not make it an ending goal for my morning routine. Here’s what I would like to incorporate into my early morning routines:
- Run through sun salutations first thing after getting up.
- Make a smoothie or a nice sustaining breakfast. Currently still running out of the house with a small, portable breakfast item.
- Journal or at least write before leaving the house.
