Day 6 of my yoga challenge is downward dog or Adho Mukha Svanasana. This may look like a simple pose but it’s a challenge for me personally. Downward dog is a sun salutation essential and mastering it takes a lot of practice. The key is to lift your hips up while pressing your heels to the mat. My hamstrings are particularly tight when it comes to this posture so I bring my knees to a light bend in order to perfect my form.
For downward dog, begin in plank pose. Firmly plant your hands on the mat and lift your hips to the ceiling while pressing back on your heels. Push your body towards your thighs. You’ll resemble an upside down “V” shape. This posture is a work in progress for me. Working through my hamstrings has been a challenge because I sit at a desk all day. But like everything, practice will improve this for me over time.
