Last weekend when my parents were in town we took a day trip up to Wilmington, NC. We spent the morning onboard the USS North Carolina so my dad could explore and photograph the showboat. Judd and I visited the ship back in February when the weather was much cooler!
We headed to Downtown Wilmington to find a place for lunch. As we walked down Front Street we came across Fat Tony’s Italian Pub. We took a peek at their outdoor menu, saw multiple items with meatballs and walked right in!
First off, this place has a special vibe. Located in an old brick building, Fat Tony’s is dimly lit with a bar that spans the length of the restaurant. Our hostess took us to the back of the restaurant where our table sat under string lighting. I was loving the place as soon as we sat down!
Our server was a wonderful gal originally from Raleigh, NC. We found out that her dad lives close to where my parents live. Small world! We had quite a hard time ordering because everything on the menu sounded so good. Once we all decided we were ready to indulge!
My mom ordered the Meatball Sundae. Okay, hear me out here! It was 4 meatballs with marinara sauce in the middle topped with ricotta cheese and a few slices of garlic bread. I mean, how delicious does this look? If ricotta didn’t make me sick I would’ve ordered this too!
My dad went for the Sausage & Peppers sandwich paired with homemade potato salad. He loves Italian sausage especially in pasta so this sandwich was perfect for him!
Judd ordered the classic Meatball sub topped with mozzarella cheese and a side of pasta salad. He loves meatball subs and to say this on was his favorite is a true statement!
Now, I got a little crazy with my order! I am the queen of smaller plates but multiple items so I ordered the 3 meatball sliders and a plate of garlic bread. I was thoroughly pleased with how delicious everything tasted. The meatball sliders had a little bit of marinara sauce on them but they never got messy while eating. I like sauce but dislike when it drenches my food completely. (I know, I’m a tad weird!) The garlic bread was perfectly flavored and included marinara dipping sauce you could dip them into.
For dessert, my dad ordered the Tiramisu. This espresso-flavored treat isn’t complete without lady fingers which were homemade. My dad is a big fan of anything coffee flavored!
We absolutely loved Fat Tony’s! With the excellent service, unique ambiance and the incredible food it’s no surprise that Fat Tony’s is the place to eat at in Wilmington, NC. If you’re planning a trip to Wilmington go grab a bite there. You can find their menu here.
