Road trips have always been adventurous for Judd and I. We took our first one about a month after dating. It’s a great way to test out a relationship! We both managed to survive but not without these road trip essentials to make even the longest drive seem fun.
A Kick-butt Playlist
The most important essential item for any road trip is the playlist of course! I have an iPod Classic that I load up with a ton of music and create playlists for each trip. If I’m on a trip with Judd we like to listen to more classic rock. But if I’m with my mom or brother, we like to throw it back to the 90s and sing and dance in the car.
This one stems back to road trips with my parents growing up. Even now my mom still brings a massive bag of trail mix for any road trip we go out together! It’s the perfect snack to enjoy until you get to a safe exit to find lunch or dinner at. I try to steer clear of places I don’t know
The Waze App
I swear by this navigation app! I started using it a few years back on my daily commute to work and it comes in handy on long road trips. It’s a great app that shows you your estimated time of arrival, if there is any traffic/back ups and if there are cops near by. If I’m driving I always have my passenger use the app for me.
Lavender Essential Oil
I’ve used this as an essential item when flying too but I tend to get very anxious when I road trip. Something about being on the road with truckers and people you don’t know or trust makes me crazy. When we drove up to Tennessee, I dabbed a little lavender EO on my wrist driving through the mountains. Something about small mountain roads makes me freak out!
If I’m planning on being in a car for a long period of time I always try to bring reading material. I prefer more magazines than books while driving in a car. Articles are shorter to read through and I don’t feel the pressure of having to finish a chapter. (It’s a weird quirk of mind!) My favorite magazines are Elle, Southern Living and Real Simple.
