We are a week out from Our Italian Thanksgiving dinner and I am incredibly nervous. At least I can admit that. I want everything to go as planned, food perfect, guests happy and everything to go off without a hitch. In the final weeks before our first holiday hosting, I am focusing my efforts on the table setting.
With any holiday, good dishware is important to pleasing dinner guests. Growing up my mom always had the nicest china and table linens for our holiday meals. Being the oldest granddaughter I was lucky enough to inherit my great-grandmother’s china collection. Of course having lived in apartments the last 4 years I wasn’t able to bring it up or store any of it. So it sat in my mother’s cabinets for years until recently. Last weekend my mom brought up a massive box filled to the brim with my China collection. From dinner and dessert plates, coffee/tea mugs to serving ware…I was set in the China department!
We got a new “grown up” dining room table when we first moved into our home. I was so excited to host a holiday for the shear fact that family would be able to actually sit at a nice table. Problem is there are only 4 chairs….and 7 people. We have a bar top in our kitchen so I plan on purchasing 3 bar stools so everyone can have a seat. I thought about getting a table-cloth for our table but it extends to a large square shape. Instead I decided to pick up some table linens: place mats and napkins. I figure it would be better than paper napkins and a plastic tablecloth….after all it is a holiday!
I am beyond excited to host Thanksgiving dinner this year with Judd. Having both of our families here in town is going to be a great time! Now to start deep cleaning the house and preparing for my brother to come stay with us!
