Jimmy Fallon does it best with his Tonight Show segment “Thank You Notes.” Each note is a joke. It’s perfection really! Growing up, my mother always had my brother and I write Thank You notes out for Christmas and birthday gifts. I have always been a gracious person so by nature I find writing Thank You notes enjoyable. Plus it’s one of the last remaining snail mail forms-it didn’t die out with the digital age.
Having recently had a wedding, I have written a number of thank you notes. It is proper etiquette to write out thank you notes to guests for coming and if they brought you a gift. I find it helpful to make a list of each gift/guest that way I can make each thank you note personal and not just a generic one.
It’s great to also be on the receiving end of thank you notes. Being acknowledged for attending a wedding, bridal or baby shower can make a person feel special. When I receive a thank you note from a friend I will usually hang it on our fridge. It’s a nice piece of mail I can enjoy!
