Every girl dreams of finding her perfect wedding dress. However I was never one of those girls! I never thought about dresses and wedding plans until I got engaged.
I also wasn’t planning on buying the first dress I tried on let alone at the first bridal shop I visited. I went in with an open mind and no plan to purchase that day. I picked out a total of 9 dresses to try on. When I put the first one on, I knew then it was the one. It was n lace, A-line dress in ivory with a small train and a sweetheart neckline. It was vintage and chic. Instead of jumping on the purchase, I gave the other dresses a try.
Some dresses were too puffy, some were too glitzy and some dresses made my skin irritated. One by one, I eliminated all but two dresses: the first one and the third, a lace dress that came up high on my neck. I tried both gowns on and made my decision to go with the first dress. It was perfect for me!
I said “yes” to my dress with my mom tearing up by my side. It was a great experience! I didn’t bring an imposing entourage of family and friends nor did I bring my bridesmaids whom I love dearly. It meant so much for me to have my mom with me in the dress shopping experience.
Here are a few Wedding Dress Shopping Tips:
- Go in with an open mind. If you like one style, that’s great but don’t completely shut out other choices just because they don’t look good on the hanger.
- Don’t let others take control of your appointment. Stand up for what you love!
- If you find a dress you like, come back to it. It could very well be the one!
- Have a general idea of what you like. Inspiration is always helpful when dress shopping.
