Happy 29th day of my yoga challenge! Today I am attempting Bird of Paradise or Svarga Dvijasana. I just started playing around with this pose and can not yet do the full expression. Doesn’t mean I can’t attempt it! This pose is a little more advanced and really relies on your hamstring flexibility. My hamstrings happen to be my tightest muscle. Begin with your knees bent in a forward fold with your feet apart. Reach one arm back through your legs. Reach both hands around one leg and clasp your hands together. Lean your weight into opposite leg and begin to lift foot off the ground. Lift your chest up and move your hips and tailbone down. If this feels comfortable extend your lifted leg straight when you feel balanced.
This pose is another one I am working towards. It helps if you have a strap on hand to help you wrap your arms around your leg. Take baby steps when doing these more advanced poses.
Let’s see your Bird of Paradise poses!
