Day 3 of my yoga challenge is Cat to Cow pose. This is a great way to warm up the body at the start of your practice. Start this sequence on your hands and knees. Keep your wrists underneath your shoulders and your hands and fingers spread wide. Align your knees directly under your hips and keep your feet in place. Start off by breathing in and dropping your belly towards the mat while lifting your chest and looking up at the ceiling. This is Cow pose or Bitilasana. As you exhale, round your back like an angry cat pulling your shoulder blades apart and looking down at your mat for Cat pose or Marjaryasana.
This is a great posture to stretch out your back and shoulders. Sometimes I will sway my hips in neutral spine before cow to cat sequences to get things warmed up. I typically start my practice off with a few cow to cat sequences and work through my breath with each posture.
