Happy Monday! Today is day 8 of my yoga challenge and it’s chair pose or Utkatasana. One of my favorite yoga teacher’s call’s this fierce pose and I always feel pretty fierce in it! Begin in mountain pose and with your inhale lift your arms up overhead. You can tough the palms together or keep them separated. I prefer to keep mine separated to train my shoulders to stay down. With the exhale gently bend your knees and sit back into your chair. You should keep the weight out of your toes. “Light up your yogi toes!”
This is a great posture for your thighs and ankles. It’s a more challenging posture for me because I have weak ankles but it has gotten easier. You can add in extra modifications to this posture to get more out of the pose. Bring in a twist by twist your body to one side and place your opposite elbow to opposite knee. Keep your chest lifted and open. Another modification for chair pose is to go up on your toes and lift your heels off the ground.
Let’s see your chair pose! Show us what you got!
